☝🏼 Don't you judge me!

Rethinking community engagement...

Hey! 👋🏼 ...welcome to the The Healthy Happy Club by WILD & WILD!

Had a super relaxed weekend with the kids - I did up meet with my business partner for a walking meeting around Astbury Mere in the rain. We put in 5 miles and still got stuff done!

💭 Just a Thought

Meta Judgement

Picture this: I'm with my kids being silly in the park, pulling silly faces and running round like a mad man. I suddenly get a little aware of what I'm doing and the other people around me.

I tense up a little, get a bit "uptight" and start to reign myself in → I've started to feel like I'm being judged somewhat.

But, here's my question - am I not judging others for assuming they're judging me? Am I not equally wrapped up in this Meta Judgement?

I've always been prone to social anxiety, something I'm disassociating myself with more and more these days - but we can all feel self conscious about certain things - like working out in public spaces, playing with full expression with our kids, wearing what we want to wear and not choosing the "commonly accepted path".

This question allows me to break that cycle - to opt out of judgement and free myself just a little more.

 🧠 The Genius Myth

🛑 Are we limiting ourselves?

I recently came across the phrase - the Genius Myth - which in brief describes the relationship a lot of us have believing that some people are just gifted with untouchable talent and excellence. We believe that they're "in another league" than us.

I completely fit within this camp - but this idea has really made me question how I view my own limits and potential.

We see it play out these days in the likes of breakout athletes, like Lionel Messi and in prolific founders like Elon Musk, or celebrated author, Elizabeth Gilbert.

The trouble with the Genius Myth - is that it's pernicious. It can really affect the way we relate to others and puts hard stop limits on ourselves as well. And, it also discounts the importance of hard work, commitment and dedication.

With this limiting belief, we reserve the right for achieving the highest potential of success (however you define that for yourself) for the outliers like the Zuckerbergs and the Einsteins of the world. We cap our own potential and create barriers to our self-belief - which then makes it much more difficult and moves the start line backwards. This is because - as we all know - you really have to believe it in order to achieve it!

The more poignant thing for me though is that labelling someone as a genius - discredits their unwavering and consistent dedication to hard work. It ignores the countless hours it took for them to refine their craft and to take the necessary risks they had to endure to get themselves where they are today.

💪 Hard can unlock the "genius" in all of us.

It's true that we're all born with different levels of "talent" and intelligence and more or less favourable circumstances - but the real differentiator is the grit and determination to succeed and the willingness to take necessary risks to make your dreams come true.

Beneath that Genius you look up to, is a lifetime of graft, sweat, tears, sleepless nights and countless hours of commitment to their goals.

How are are you going to carve out your genius?

⭕️ The Power of Circle

👋 Community Community Community →

I tend to keep myself to myself - I work from home, I run alone and it sometimes feels like I only hang with my kids. They say you're the average of the 5 people you spend your time with - which makes me a 5 year old boy!

April on the other hand is amazing at staying in touch with old friends, building new relationships and even hosting space for women and men to come together and connect, share stories and grow.

I've been super conscious of this for a few years now - so I created a Friday Night Football session for lads! → you can join here! ...and the truth is, it's become the highlight of my week.

What are Men's / Women's Circles?

Put simply, they provide an open and safe space for connection, away from any judgement that facilitates an opportunity to talk, share - or just listen.

Women's Circles are gatherings of women for women.

Sometimes referred to as Red Tents, or Moon Lodges they are open spaces open for all ages. Traditionally, these gatherings were hosted during a new moon or full moon - because of the relationship between between female and lunar cycles.

A Women's circle provides a supportive environment in which women can be heard, held and seen without judgment. Offering time to connect, move and chat together - promoting a sense of belonging and community within the group.

If you've never experienced a circle - and there is a part of you that is searching for a deeper connection - I can personally attest to the growth and transformational experience that can be found.

I have attended Mentell's Men's Circles hosted at WILD & WILD myself - and I have seen first-hand just how they have helped April so much through our busy and often stressful lives together and parents, founders and business partners.

April's next monthly Women's Circle is on the 29th January @ Barre Sculpt on Congleton - if you're looking to build your community and connect with more likeminded people, then I know you'll get a lot out of these deeply restorative and heart-warming gatherings.
